Multi Day Hiking Tour in Svaneti
- Tour Overview
Lace up your boots for Georgia鈥檚 ultimate mountain journey through Upper Svaneti, a land where jagged 5,000-meter peaks stand guard over medieval stone watchtowers. This dedicated hiking tour takes you deep into a UNESCO World Heritage alpine wonderland. You will trek along pristine ridges, cross roaring glacial rivers, and hike right up to massive ice falls. Combining wild, backcountry trails with overnight stays in remote, ancient villages, this expedition offers the perfect balance of raw high-altitude adventure and deep cultural immersion.
What You Will See & Experience
The Mestia to Ushguli Trekking Route: Hike sections of Georgia's most famous multi-day alpine trail. You will trek from village to village through the breathtaking valleys of Mulakhi, Adishi, and Iprali, navigating high alpine terrain that can only be accessed on foot or horseback.
The Wild Adishi Glacier Crossing: Experience a true expedition highlight. After trekking through a remote, roadless valley, you will cross a rushing, ice-cold glacial river (often on horseback) before hiking directly along the massive, cracked ice wall of the spectacular Adishi Glacier.
The Formidable Chkhunderi Pass: Conquer a challenging climb up to 2,655 meters. Reaching the top of this high mountain ridge unlocks a jaw-dropping, front-row view of the massive, frozen peaks of the Bezengi Wall, including Mount Tetnuldi and Mount Shkhara.
The Mirror-Like Koruldi Lakes: Ascend a steep, challenging trail climbing directly out of Mestia. Your reward is a cluster of crystal-clear alpine lakes sitting at 2,740 meters, where the notoriously sharp, twin-crested silhouette of Mount Ushba (the "Matterhorn of the Caucasus") reflects perfectly in the still water.
The Roaring Chalaadi Glacier: Trek a classic, scenic route through dense pine forests and over suspension bridges. The trail follows a rushing river of melted ice straight to the rocky terminal moraine where the Chalaadi Glacier violently births a mountain river from its icy caves.
The Towering Shdugra Waterfall: Hike through the lush Mazeri Valley at the southern foot of Mount Ushba. This trail leads you through alpine meadows and pine groves to the base of Shdugra, the tallest and most powerful waterfall in Georgia, crashing down a sheer rock cliff.
Ushguli & The Shkhara Glacier Trek: Explore Europe鈥檚 highest permanently inhabited village community before hiking a gentle, panoramic valley trail that runs alongside the upper Enguri River, taking you directly to the base of the massive glacier melting off Mount Shkhara (Georgia's highest peak at 5,193m).
Authentic Svan Village Hospitality: After a long, demanding day on the trail, you will drop your backpack at a traditional family guesthouse. Relax over a hearty mountain dinner featuring Kubdari (spiced meat-filled flatbread) and local dishes seasoned with aromatic, wild-harvested Svanetian Salt.
